Real Networks G2 uses two different protocols, RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol) and PNA (Progressive Networks Audio) protocol. With your account you can use either of these protocols to stream. Additionally, you may use the HTTP (Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol) for you multimedia presentations, but this is not recommended. Unlike RTSP, the HTTP protocol does not allows for two-way communication with the server and client in order to syncronize the download of the presentation, in order to keep the clips playing smoothly.

The PNA protocol was developed for Real Audio 3.0 to 5.0, but is also compatible with the G2 standard. It is suggested by Real Networks to use the RTSP protocol for all G2 multimedia applications.
