How it works: We are using What's Up Gold to monitor all essential services across all servers. What's Up will send a 56 byte packet to specific ports (80 for HTTP) every minute of every day, 365 days per year. If the port is pingable and responsive, then the service is available. Otherwise, What's Up assumes this service is down.

POP3, or Post Office Protocol version 3, is used to authenticate you when your check your e-mail. An outage in POP3 would mean that you could not check and subsquently download any new e-mail from your account.

SMTP
SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and is used when your send e-mail from your account with us. Without SMTP being up, you could not send any composed e-mail messages waiting in the que to be sent.

Telnet

PCP
PCP is the Personal Control Panel, which is also monitored. The PCP uses HTTP as well, just on a different port (911).

SSL
SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, which is a secure method for HTTP. This protocol is used often in commerce transactions via the web. An interruption in SSL service means that SSL on your website (if used) would not be available.

mySQL
mySQL is the database program used for on pisces. This is a seperate program running that allows you to control your databases. Without this service being up, you will not be able to access any of your database information.
