Telnet is a terminal (console) emulator, which allows you to access the server your account is hosted on (Pisces) remotely. The advantage to this is that Telnet allows you to perform common functions, such as file editing, script debugging, and other system administration tasks easily, without the need of uploading updates to files to the server. Recently, SSH has become a popular replacement for Telnet, due to the fact that SSH employes encryption technology, making all transmissions from the client/server secure. However, since some SSH clients are unavailable on some platforms, and Telnet is still the defacto standard, Preston Company supports both. Note: With your account, you are provided access to your account via Telnet/SSH. This allows you to move throughout your entire directory structure. As you are not provided with any "restricted" logins, we recommend that you do not give your Telnet/SSH login and password to anyone, as by doing so you would be allowing them unrestricted access to your files and directories. Simply put, we do not recommend giving access to your account via Telnet/SSH to anyone, unlike extra FTP accounts you might create on your account.
