In order to use the File Transfer Utility, you will need the following information: 1. Website Domain Name or IP Adress to Mirror 2. Directory to Mirror 3. Area of your Account to Put the Data 4. FTP Login on this Domain Name or IP Address 5. Password Corresponding to this FTP Login Number 1 is pretty simple, as you would just specify your domain name (preston-net.com) or the IP address your old webhosting provider assigned to your account. Number 2 is a bit more complicated. We need to know relative to the directory you are logged into when you access this particular account, what do you want mirrored? For example, if you want everything mirrored relative to what you see when you log into this account, then leave this field blank. Another example would be if your website data is in a directory named "public_html". If you wanted only your website data to be mirrored, then you would specify "public_html" as the directory to mirror. Number 3 gives you the option to store all of the retreived data in either your public_html directory with us, or in the root of your account. Putting all of your data in your public_html will make all of the data available on your website. Important Examples Example #1: Let's assume that the server you are wanting to mirror automatically logs you into a directory similar to your account with us. Therefore, you would see a directory named "public_html", which contains all of your website data. You are wanting to not only mirror your website data, but the other data which is not in your public_html directory, and therefore unavailable to anyone via the web. You would therefore leave the area of the website to mirror field blank, and set the area of your account to put the data field to the root of your account. This is because when the utility copies all of the data in your public_html directory, it will automatically put the data in the public_html directory on your account with us. Remember, the utility will mirror the files as well as the directory structure! Example #2: You want to mirror all of the data directly below the directory you are logged into when you log into the FTP account of the website to mirror. You would just put a ".." in the area of the website to mirror field. It is very important to remember not to use absolute paths, but paths relative to the directory you are logged into when you access this account via FTP. Number 4 is simply the login or userid of the FTP account for the domain name or IP address to mirror. Number 5 is the corresponding password for the FTP account. It would be a good idea to log into this account using the login and password you will provide us before executing the File Transfer Utility to ensure the login and password is correct. Options The File Transfer Utility provides you with the following options: All of the following options assume that you are mirroring the same directory structure on your account with us as with the mirror server. These options should only be used if this is the case. Option #1 is the default option: 1. Mirror all data, and overwrite any existing files on your account with us with the files from the mirror website. 2. Mirror all data, but backup file(s) with the same name before overwriting with file(s) from the mirror website. 3. Mirror only files and directories which do not already exist on your account with us. |
