There are many significant differences between HTML and WML design. Display capabilities vary greatly between mobile phones and other wireless devices. Some devices do not support graphics. It is important to design your WML pages with those limitations in mind. For a link to an online tutorial click here.

WML pages cannot be viewed with a normal web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. There are WAP browsers available for your desktop. There are also online web browsers available. WAP also uses it's own format for graphic images. Standard jpeg, gif and png files need to be converted. Programs exist to convert existing graphics. Many vendors also provide plug-ins for popular web design programs. For a link to an online tutorial click here.

A common practice is to create a subdomain with the name WAP. This way wap.preston-net.com points to the subdirectory that contains all of your WML. While www.preston-net.com points to your HTML site. The Apache webserver will send the default error pages when an error occurs. These are HTML and will not display in a wireless device using WAP. Therefore you should install custom WML error pages in your WAP subdirectory.
